Crossroads of Pella is a non-profit community based human service agency which seeks to be the first call for help, information, or referral services and offers short term psychotherapy for residents of the Pella school district and surrounding area. Their mission is to enhance the well-being and fullness of life of those citizens living in and around the area of Pella, Iowa, without regard to the age, race, national origin, religious preference, handicap, or financial status of those it serves. Crossroads services are entirely free to those who use them because they are mainly funded from local foundations, local businesses, and individuals who recognize the need and seek to fill it with financial gifts. They are located on the 3rd floor of the Pella Community Center at 712 Union Street. Services include: crisis intervention, short term psychotherapy, information on support systems, referral information, development and facilitation of support groups and classes, speakers for community groups, financial assistance, illness support services, Pella transplant fund, mediation services, Pella’s Annual Holiday Project, Victims Offenders Reconciliation Program (VORP), SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program), Empower (Sexual Abstinence Program), and much more. The Well Resource Center is an organization composed of individuals representing area churches, non-profits, businesses and foundations interested in more effectively ministering to those in need in the Pella area. They listen to your concerns, offer encouragement and support, and help connect you with people and necessary resources in our area as well as explore long-term, life-enhancing solutions. The team at The Well will help brainstorm solutions to transportation struggles, financial and budgeting issues, housing challenges, and needs for a healthy support system.
Families First of Pella has been serving Pella since 1994. They work to with parents to provide a chance for quality family time, including activities like the Father/Daughter Dance, Mother/Son Bowling, Family Open Gym at Central College, and Family Time on the Square on Thursday nights. Other services include the school parenting handouts for families with kids in K-8, the annual Parent University with a special keynote speaker and small group sessions, the Love and Logic parenting class, and workplace and library resources. The Love and Logic classes teach parenting skills that cultivate confidence and good decision-making skills in children by offering choices, empathy, and respect while avoiding anger, threats, and warnings.
