Pella Community Connection Through Design

When it comes to ingenuity and hometown pride, Bailey Van Wyk embodies the spirit of entrepreneurial success and community connection. Recently celebrated by the PACE Alliance Dutch Greeters with a ribbon cutting ceremony, Bailey, a Pella native and Iowa State University alumna, returned to her roots after years away to nurture her growing family alongside her husband Ben and their two young boys.

Bailey’s journey into business ownership is a testament to both dedication and passion for design and community. Having honed her skills in graphic and web design during a decade-long tenure at Brand Appeal, Bailey transitioned seamlessly when the opportunity arose to purchase the business from its previous owner. This move allowed her not only to retain the trust of Brand Appeal’s longstanding clients but also to infuse her own creative vision into the brand.

Reflecting on her decision to take over the business, Bailey said, “As the previous owner decided to switch lanes, I had a decision to make. Do I keep serving my current clients or do I switch gears? I decided to jump into business ownership and continue serving my clients.”

Many in Pella may recognize Bailey’s work, such as the PACE Alliance’s “Live Life Local” logo, Bailey’s first design fresh out of college! She also styled the PACE Alliance Light Pole Banners for the 2024/2025 season. And, her portfolio doesn’t stop there. Bailey’s designs for local businesses like Janssen Custom Fabrication and community staples such as the Pella Community Food Shelf reflect her deep-rooted commitment to enhancing local identity through thoughtful and innovative design.

Bailey’s dedication to small-town businesses is palpable. Specializing in comprehensive branding kits and small business web design, she sees herself not just as a service provider but as a partner in her clients’ success stories. “I particularly enjoy collaborating with local small business owners,” Bailey explains. “There’s a unique creativity and spirit of collaboration here in Pella that I’m proud to support, especially with it being my hometown. Small business owners don’t have the time to do everything themselves. I love that I can come in as their partner and help them with jobs big or small.”

From Start to Finish

Van Wyk Creative offers a comprehensive range of services, from website design to complete branding kits, including logos, apparel, signage, color schemes, and more. While she loves the variety of her work when asked what her favorite part of her career is, Bailey replied “Branding projects, from start to finish is where I find the most fulfillment. Being able to witness a vision come to life and contribute to the growth of our community—it’s incredibly rewarding.”

For Bailey, the flexibility of owning her own business is invaluable. Balancing work and family life, she cherishes the ability to manage projects from her home office while savoring precious moments with her young family. “With a young family, the beauty of owning my own business is that I can do so much from home from my computer. I can enjoy those moments with my family and still succeed as a business owner. I appreciate the flexibility of the job,” she noted.

As Bailey continues to shape Van Wyk Creative into a beacon of creativity and reliability in Pella, her dedication to quality craftsmanship and community support remains unwavering. With each project, whether it’s a website redesign or a brand identity overhaul, Bailey exemplifies the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in our community. “We love the town of Pella, so it’s fun to be able to come back and support all the small businesses,” she expressed.
